365 DotU, Day 73 Goes For The Tacky Graceland Decor

As I said yesterday, I’m running out of tunes. On the spur of the moment this morning, I decided to hit one I’ve done with the jam band and others before: Alannah Myles’ “Black Velvet.” I didn’t feel like screwing around with alternate tunings or bar chords on the 6-string, so I just picked up the ol’ acoustic tenor guitar and sang the thing.

It’s not the best I’ve ever performed the song — I think this tune really does benefit from having the presence of a whole band behind it, especially a good bass line. I compensated for the shrill tendencies of the tenor by boosting the bass on the audio track and compressing the hell out of it. Still, done is done. One more down, just a bit shy of 300 to go…

Oh, dear.

About L. M. Bernhardt

For a good long while (15 years or so), I taught philosophy at a little private university in northwest IA, and occasionally branched out into playing music, dabbling in photography, experimenting with food, and writing nonsense on my blog. The philosophy teaching part ended in 2017 (program elimination via prioritization), but never fear! I've just finished my MLIS at San Jose State University, and I'm currently on the market looking for new adventures in either philosophy or LIS. For now, I labor at a fairly interesting administrative job in order to support my dogs in the lavish manner to which they've become accustomed.
